Rollover Pass, Galveston Bay, Crystal Beach Fishing Reports

RV PARK ROLLOVER PASS

Rollover is about a 200 foot wide strait, four to five feet deep, and more than 1,550 feet long across the Bolivar Peninsula.

This narrow channel links Rollover Bay and East Bay with the Gulf of Mexico Beach in southeastern Galveston County.

The pass was opened in 55 by the Texas Game and Fish Commission to help state fish and wildlife resources and improve the local fishing conditions in the bay.

Rollover brings in large quantities of saltwater into East Bay to increase bay water saltwater salinity and to improve the growth of submerged vegetation, and help marine fish to and from spawning and feeding areas in the East bay / Galveston bay complex.

Rollover pass is named for the practice from the days when the Spanish rule through prohibition, used the pass to avoid the Galveston customs station, by rolling barrels of import or export products over that part of the Bolivar peninsula.
